Travertine Walls: 2026 Interior Design Trends

By Stoneart · · 4 min read

Textured stone wall with a soft lived-in look

Travertine is one of the defining materials in interior design for 2026. It appears in bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and hospitality spaces, chosen for its warm colour, soft texture and quiet confidence. 2026 design press describes travertine as a core element in luxury interiors this year, with light and grey tones in particular leading the look.

Stoneart's Poly Stone range brings this look to Indian projects in a flexible, large-format sheet that is far easier to install than cut slab. Here is how designers are using travertine in 2026, and how to specify it well.

Why travertine is leading in 2026

Travertine has a natural horizontal banding and small natural pits that give it a soft, lived-in character. It warms a room without visually dominating it, which is why designers have gravitated to it as the "quiet luxury" look settled in.

Design press for 2026 highlights:

  • Light and grey-toned travertines such as cream and silver, for a modern, seamless look.
  • Travertine feature walls in bedrooms, living rooms and entertainment units.
  • Travertine in bathrooms and kitchens paired with pale cabinetry.
  • Travertine mixed with marble, letting the two sit together for contrast of warmth and polish.

Trade shows such as Salone del Mobile 2026 gave natural stone a central role in luxury interiors, which has pulled travertine firmly into the mainstream.

Where to use travertine this year

  • Bedroom feature wall. A warm cream travertine behind the bed, floor to ceiling, with a thin brass or stone shelf running across.
  • Living room TV wall. The whole wall, including the console, in one continuous travertine. The TV disappears into the stone.
  • Bathroom vanity wall. A single sheet behind a floating vanity, lit from above and below, is spa-like without being clinical.
  • Kitchen island front. The visible side of the island carries travertine, paired with marble or quartz on the top.
  • Entrance and reception walls. A travertine wall says premium immediately, especially under warm lighting.
  • Hospitality interiors. Hotels, restaurants and spas use travertine for its calm, textured warmth; large sheets reduce joints across tall walls.

Stoneart Poly Stone travertine range

Stoneart's Poly Stone range is 3 to 4 mm thick, with a polyester backing, in 1220 × 2440 mm sheets that can be customized. The 12 current designs cover the full travertine palette:

The large sheet size means a bedroom wall or a wardrobe front can be clad in one or two pieces, keeping joints minimal.

Design pairings that work

  • Travertine + oak. Warm cream travertine with warm oak joinery.
  • Travertine + brass. A hint of brass hardware or lighting lifts travertine without competing with it.
  • Travertine + white. Pale travertine walls behind crisp white kitchen cabinetry.
  • Travertine + marble. Travertine on the walls, marble on the worktop or splashback.
  • Travertine + soft lighting. Warm 2700 K lighting makes travertine glow.

What to think about before you specify

  • Scale matters. Large walls look best in large sheets, with few joints. Poly Stone's 1220 × 2440 mm sheet is well suited.
  • Light the wall. Travertine has subtle texture that only shows when it is lit. A wash of light down the wall brings it to life.
  • Pick the warmth you want. Cream and sand travertines feel warm; grey and silver travertines feel cool and modern.
  • Order samples. Travertine varies naturally between sheets. See the actual stone before you commit.
